Top Five Wednesday #7 ~ Favorite Character Tropes

t5w

Happy Wednesday! This weekly bookish meme was created by gingerreadslainey and you can check out the Goodreads group for more information. This week’s topic is favorite character tropes. A character trope is something used frequently and possibly overused in many books. For some reason, I had a little trouble with this topic, but I hope everyone enjoys this post nonetheless!

5) Love Triangles

Love triangles are always hit or miss, but if they are a miss, there is at least some entertainment. It cracks me up when guys are “competing” for a girl and they try to “out-masculine” each other. The only thing I absolutely cannot stand is a whiny girl in a love triangle. “Oh no, I have two guys that love me! Whatever shall I do?” Shut up.

Teaser Tuesday #3 ~ July 28, 2015

teaser tuesday

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm. If you would like to participate in Teaser Tuesdays, just open the book you are currently reading to a random page and find two “teaser” sentences from that page. Be careful to avoid spoilers!

Right now I am reading Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, which was required summer reading from my school.

“There was another rumble, and the cloud of smoke spread out, that spreading black shape we’d all grown up seeing in movies. Someone had just blown up something, in a big way.” (Page 33)

Of Triton ~ Anna Banks

15513156Goodreads Synopsis

Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm below. Syrena law states that all Half-Breeds should be put to death.

As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance among the Syrena turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?

Once again, Anna Banks infuses Emma and Galen’s points of view with humor, intrigue, and waves of romance.

My Review

As I expected, I finished the book for the second time just as quickly as I finished Of Poseidon and I am still loving the Syrena Legacy trilogy.

If you have not read the first book yet, I suggest not reading the rest of this review because it will probably spoil the end of the first book. Read More »

Paper Towns ~ John Green

6442769Goodreads Synopsis

Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life—dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows. After their all-nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues—and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew…

My Review

I read this book before I created this blog on a road trip. I had a four hour drive and nothing to do, so naturally, I would finish an entire book. At the time, I did not know the movie was coming out, but now that the movie comes out tonight, I thought it would be an appropriate time to review my favorite book. Once I see the movie, I will write a post discussing my feelings about it. I have no doubts that it will be amazing, based on the BookCon Panel, the trailers, and everything else surrounding it.

Top Five Wednesday #6 ~ Side Characters that Deserve Their Own Series

t5w

Happy Wednesday! This weekly bookish meme was created by gingerreadslainey and you can check out the Goodreads group for more information. This week’s topic is side characters that deserve their own series. I like this topic because there is always so much focus on the main characters, but the side characters are just as important. The side characters are the ones who influence the main character and make them who they are. They are also amazing fodder for fanfiction (wink, wink). Read More »

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm. If you would like to participate in Teaser Tuesdays, just open the book you are currently reading to a random page and find two “teaser” sentences from that page. Be careful to avoid spoilers!

A book I am currently reading is Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly. I received an eARC of this book from the publisher, and so far I am loving it.

“After a second, I realized the screaming was no imagined rock song and that, in fact, the screaming was coming from me. Later, Digby told me I sounded like his grandmother’s cockatoo when its wing accidentally got caught in the vacuum.” (Location 707 on Kindle)

Of Poseidon ~ Anna Banks

12425532Goodreads Synopsis

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom…

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

My Review

This was my second time reading this book and I absolutely loved it this time as much as I did the first time. I discovered this trilogy when I was looking through the authors who were attending BookCon, and while I did not end up meeting Anna Banks, I am so happy I came across her books,Read More »

Top Five Wednesday #5 ~ Anticipated Pre-Orders for the Rest of the Year

t5w

I have started getting really excited about Wednesdays now, which is weird because Wednesday is such a random day other than the fact that it is placed perfectly in the middle of the week. Anyway, I love doing Top Five Wednesdays which were created by gingerreadslainey. You can check out the Goodreads group for more information.

This week’s topic is anticipated pre-orders for the rest of the year. I was actually not completely aware of what books were being released in the next couple months, so this forced me into checking out what was coming out soon. All this caused me to do was get even more excited about what books I will soon be able to read.

Teaser Tuesday #1 ~ July 14, 2015

25782678Because I love doing Top Five Wednesdays so much, I decided that I would start another weekly bookish meme. This one is called Teaser Tuesdays hosted by A Daily Rhythm.

For Teaser Tuesdays, you get a book that you are currently reading, open to a random page, and share two “teaser” sentences from that page. Be careful not to share any spoilers!

I am currently reading/listening to multiple books, but I am going to do my teaser from Destiny Calls by Phenice Arielle because that is most likely the book I will finish next.

“Callum closed his eyes and pretended to crash into me–a clear imitation, and unfair reenactment I might add, of our first couple of meetings. I laughed.” (Page 54)

Landline ~ Rainbow Rowell

LandlineGoodreads Synopsis

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble; it has been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.

Maybe that was always beside the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn’t expect him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts…

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

My Review

It was a couple days before Christmas when Georgie McCool found out that her dreams were so close to coming true. Just one week of powering through writing scripts with her best friend, Seth, and they would have the television show they had been dreaming of since college. The only problem was it would require missing her family trip to Omaha with her husband, Neal, and two daughters, Alice and Numi. With everything she has ever wanted to close, was missing a vacation really a huge sacrifice?Read More »
