Top Five Wednesday #7 ~ Favorite Character Tropes

t5w

Happy Wednesday! This weekly bookish meme was created by gingerreadslainey and you can check out the Goodreads group for more information. This week’s topic is favorite character tropes. A character trope is something used frequently and possibly overused in many books. For some reason, I had a little trouble with this topic, but I hope everyone enjoys this post nonetheless!

5) Love Triangles

Love triangles are always hit or miss, but if they are a miss, there is at least some entertainment. It cracks me up when guys are “competing” for a girl and they try to “out-masculine” each other. The only thing I absolutely cannot stand is a whiny girl in a love triangle. “Oh no, I have two guys that love me! Whatever shall I do?” Shut up.

4) Best Friends Falling in Love

This is one of the cutest character tropes. Who doesn’t want to fall in love with someone who knows you inside and out? Unless, of course, that person doesn’t love you back.

3) Girl/Boy Next Door

This one kind of goes along with the best friends falling in love. I have always fantasized about having a cute guy living next door, but unfortunately all of my neighbors are obnoxious. Why can’t I have a Cricket Bell next door?!

2) Stubborn Girl who Gets Help from an Attractive Guy

I love it when girls have the attitude that they can do anything by themselves, but everybody needs help at some point. I love it when a girl thinks she is going to do something crazy by herself and then some attractive guy shows up anyway and helps her. It is just too cute!

1) Stereotypical Popular Teenager Falling in Love with a Social Outcast

Blond hair and blue eyed cheerleader with a big, buff, football player boyfriend, lives in a mansion and gets everything she wants falls in love with a boy from the bad part of town, only wears black, and never quite has enough to eat. Tall and muscular guy with dark hair and light eyes notices the shy girl from the back of the room who doesn’t seem to have any friends and decides he is interested in her. You all know exactly what I am talking about.

What did you think of my favorite character tropes? Did you have any of the same?
